Michael Dean Perry and William Perry

Former NFL Defensive Linemen

Fine Arts Activity - Students will determine a cause to support through their artistic efforts.

K-12 PE - Have a College football player visit the class/school to provide a forum to explain what life as a college student athlete is like.

MS/HS PE - During a flag-football unit, use video of Michael Dean or William playing football. Provide for discussion about intensity and athleticism during game play.

MS/HS PE or Health - After viewing video of William playing football at Clemson or for the Chicago Bears, discuss the perception of overweight people playing sport. Further discuss how overweight people can enjoy physical activity.

US History (HS) -
William (The Fridge) Perry - The music video “Super Bowl Shuffle” should be used to introduce this lesson.  Students will research the professional career of William (The Fridge) Perry.  They will then compile a timeline of his professional career (1984-1995).  After completing this timeline students will be asked, “What major events in history were occurring during that time?”

Students will then complete research of events surrounding the end of the Cold War.  After completing research students will complete a two tiered (comparative) timeline. This timeline will be used to discuss America at the end of the Cold War.

Idea for Extension:

Using these timelines and primary source materials available through the National Archives and Library of Congress students will construct a digital documentary in the style of Ken Burns covering the period.
